Do you Struggle with the Language and Literature IB Internal Assessment?
The Language & Literature IA encourages creativity but also poses challenges. Combining literary analysis with real-world contexts in spoken form needs practice, specially since live recordings can highlight unpreparedness. Here’s why students struggle to score high & how we can assist you:
.«Not finding a Global Issue that fits both texts.» The most common hurdle in this Assesment is selecting a Global Issue that is broad enough to matter but specific enough to analyze deeply. Depending on your interests and texts you may have in mind, we’ll help you choose the ideal Global Issue.
«The 15-minute time limit.» Unlike a written essay, the Individual Oral is a performance. You must speak for 10 minutes continuously and then answer questions for 5 minutes. In order to pace yourself correctly, you and your tutor will practice your presentation until it is near perfect.
«Not knowing how to analyze Non-Literary texts.» The Language and Literature IB course requires you to treat an advertisement or political cartoon with the same rigor as a Shakespearean sonnet. Students often struggle to balance these two distinct forms; but here, we guide you in the analysis process and the contruction of the arguments you’ll use for your presentation.
«The outline is too vague to help me speak.» You are only allowed a limited number of bullet points in the exam room. If your outline doesn’t trigger deep analytical thoughts, you risk freezing up or drifting into plot summary; this is why we help you select these bullet points according to your learning process.
This is what the Language and Literature IA Requires
To truly excel in this component, you need guidance from experts who know the grading rubric from the inside out. Our team consists of active IB certified teachers and examiners who understand exactly how to structure the IO to maximize marks. They’ll help you create a presentation based on two extracts: one from a literary work studied in class and one from a non-literary body of work. You must examine the ways in which a Global Issue of your choice is presented through the content and form of both works based on these criteria:

Knowledge, Understanding, and Interpretation (10 points)
Does your Global Issue connect clearly to both works? Do you understand the context of the non-literary text and the literary work?

Analysis and Evaluation (10 points)
Are you analyzing how the author/creator presents the issue? This requires deep engagement with authorial choices, literary devices, and visual rhetoric.

Focus and Organization (10 points)
Is your speech structured logically? Do you transition smoothly between the literary and non-literary texts?

Language (10 points)
Is your register formal and academic? Is your terminology accurate (e.g., using «visual framing» or «metaphor» correctly)? Do you present yourself with confidence?
